Sylhet MP Mufti Abul Hasan visited erosion-affected areas along the Surma and Kushiyara rivers in Jakiganj-Kanaighat, Sylhet, on May 12-13. He inspected multiple locations in Birshreshi Union, Barhal Union, and Konagram Union.
On May 11, Hasan also visited high-risk areas in Lakhipur-Gouripur, Ramapur, and Gosainpur in Kanaighat upazila.
During his visits, the MP assessed the overall condition of the affected areas and spoke with local residents affected by the erosion. He listened attentively to their hardships and concerns.
Hasan assured the affected communities that he stands with them and promised prompt measures to address the erosion. He mentioned that authorities had been informed and emergency river management work would begin soon to minimize further damage.
Present during the visits were Jakiganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Masudur Rahman, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Water Development Board Rony Das, and Assistant Engineers Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan and Josim Uddin, among others.
