Police have arrested three people with 300,000 yaba pills in a raid on a newly built apartment in Cox’s Bazar town.
The raid took place at about 3am on Saturday (17 October) at the newly built Purbita building at Coral Reef in the town’s Shaheed Smarani area.
Those arrested are Md Arman, son of Abdul Kader of Shariatpur; Shamim of Barishal; and Mohammad Rakib, son of Kashem of Bhola.
Police said they raided the flat on a tip-off and recovered 300,000 yaba pills. The three were arrested on charges of involvement in the drug trade.
According to police, the three said during initial questioning that a man named Rahat from Narayanganj had rented the flat, and that large quantities of yaba were stored there to be smuggled to Dhaka. They claimed a consignment of 2 million yaba pills had earlier been supplied from the flat.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model police station, said a case had been filed and efforts were under way to bring the ring’s leaders, including Rahat, to justice quickly.
