A fire at a garage in Matuail, Jatrabari, in the capital has burned two buses, including the “Nongor” bus used by Jagannath University (JnU) students. It happened at about 10:45am on Sunday (18 October) at a garage on Matuail Madrasa Road. No one was hurt.

University sources said the Nongor bus, which runs on the Narsingdi route, had been taken to the garage for repairs. The fire broke out while welding work was being done on another bus, and spread to the JnU bus. Most of both buses burned, and the seats inside the JnU bus were badly damaged.

The university’s transport administrator, Professor Tarek Bin Atique, said the bus had been handed to the garage for repairs the day before, and no students were on it when the fire broke out.

He said the garage owner had promised to repair the bus fully, so for now the university is not pursuing legal action.
