Dhaka Metropolitan Police, or DMP, detained over a hundred Awami League leaders and activists from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, or JSD, at the GPO intersection in Gulistan in the capital.
They were detained around 2:30pm on Saturday. Confirming the incident, Paltan police station officer-in-charge Ariful Alam said police received information from secret sources that Awami League leaders and activists had gathered at the JSD office and were holding a secret meeting. Based on the information, police conducted a raid and detained them from there. Police are also on alert so they cannot cause any untoward incident, he said.
He also said details would be available once the operation is fully completed.
