There will be no admission test for Class XI this year either. Students will be admitted based on their results. Applications are scheduled to open on September 15, admission will be completed by November 10 and classes will begin on November 12.
Applications will be accepted centrally online, and admissions will be managed according to merit and students’ preferences.
Dhaka Education Board chairman Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman told Jugantor that applications were scheduled to open on September 15 under the draft timetable. The timetable will be sent to the Education Ministry on Thursday. If approved, the process will begin accordingly.
There are about 2.5 million seats for Class XI admission nationwide in colleges and madrasas. Last year, 58.7% of the total seats were filled, leaving 41.3% vacant. The pass rate has fallen further this year, so more seats are expected to remain vacant.
Even with vacant seats, some students who earned GPA-5 may not get into their preferred institutions because comparatively good institutions have fewer seats. More than 116,000 students earned GPA-5 across 11 education boards this year, including 106,009 students across the nine general education boards.
For the past several years, students have been admitted to Class XI based on SSC and equivalent results. The system applies to colleges and madrasas; institutions under the Technical Education Board follow a separate admission process. Apart from a few institutions such as Notre Dame College in Dhaka, almost all colleges and madrasas use this system.
The Dhaka Education Board centrally runs the online admission process with technical support from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
