Four people, an army member among them, have been sent to jail in Patharghata, Barguna, in a case filed over a land dispute. Judge Md Ponir Sheikh of the Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court gave the order on Thursday.
Those sent to jail are the army member Md Ershad, son of the late Abdus Sobhan Dafadar of the Chhoto Patharghata area of the upazila; his brother Md Zakir Hossain; Alamin, son of Yunus Majhi; and Kamal Hossain of the same area.
Two other accused in the case, Abdul Jalil and Abu Saleh, sons of Yunus Majhi, did not appear in court, and arrest warrants have been issued against them.
According to the case, many years ago the plaintiff Golam Rabbani’s father, Abdur Razzak, bought 34.33 decimals of land in the names of Golam Rabbani and his mother. Golam Rabbani and his family have held and used the land since then. As Golam Rabbani is a lecturer at Amtali College, he spends little time in Patharghata. The case alleges that, taking advantage of this, the main accused, the army member Md Ershad, his brother Zakir Hossain and the other accused took over the land to build a concrete building. When Golam Rabbani came to the site to ask about it, they threatened him in various ways. Golam Rabbani filed the case with the Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on 3 March 2024. When four of the accused appeared in court on Thursday, the judge ordered them sent to jail.
Confirming this, Md Mubin, bench assistant at the Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court, said the court ordered four people, the army member Ershad and his brother among them, sent to jail in the case filed under the Land Crimes Prevention and Remedy Act. As the third and sixth accused did not appear, arrest warrants have been issued against them.
