Police have recovered the body of a young battery-run autorickshaw driver, Arman Fakir, 21, from the Arial Khan river in Raipura, Narsingdi, seven days after he went missing.

The body was recovered from the river at Hasnabad Nayahati, next to Hasnabad Bazar in the upazila’s Amirganj union, on Sunday afternoon (October 18).

Arman was the son of Salauddin Fakir of the Fakir house in Nolbata, Amirganj union.

According to his family and police, Arman charged his autorickshaw and left home last Sunday afternoon at the call of an unidentified man, and never returned. On Sunday morning local people saw a body in the Arial Khan river and informed police. After it was recovered, local people identified it as Arman’s.

His younger brother said Arman had left home last Sunday afternoon, after charging his autorickshaw, when an unknown man called him. A week later his body was found in the river.

Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, in charge of the Amirganj police outpost, said: “We got the news at 10:10 in the morning, informed Raipura police station and recovered the body. It had decomposed.”

“The family says the body is Arman’s, but a DNA test will have to be done,” he said. “The body has been sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem.”
