Two passengers have been killed in a collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van at Panchdona in Madhabdi, Narsingdi.
The accident happened on Friday morning (September 25) in front of Bhatpara bazar on the Panchdona-Tongi road.
The dead are Saidul Islam, 22, son of Khorshed Alam of the Antarampur area of Chardighaldi union in Narsingdi Sadar upazila, and Nur Uddin, son of Haris Molla of Matail Dakkhin Para in Ashulia.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a CNG auto-rickshaw carrying passengers left Gazipur for Narsingdi in the morning. On reaching the Bhatpara road at Panchdona, it collided with the back of a covered van coming from the opposite direction while overtaking. Passenger Nur Uddin died on the spot and Saidul Islam died on the way to hospital. Madhabdi police recovered Nur Uddin’s body and took the auto-rickshaw driver into custody.
Sub-inspector Md Jasim of the police station said the bodies have been sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem, and further legal action will be taken after talking to the victims’ families.
