An 18-year-old woman, Mim Akter, has died after falling from the roof of a three-storey building in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur.
It happened early on Sunday (18 October) at a rented home in the Miarhat Bazar area of the upazila. Police said she jumped from the roof after taking offence at her mother over a family dispute.
Mim Akter was the wife of Rashed Sardar, of Khunerchar village, who works abroad.
According to police and local sources, Mim Akter had been renting the first floor of Ansar Uddin Mudha’s house at Miarhat Bazar with her family for some time. Early on Sunday, after a disagreement with her mother, she jumped from the roof of the building and was seriously injured.
Family members and neighbours rescued her and tried to take her to hospital, but she died on the way to Kalkini hospital. Kalkini police visited the scene after being informed.
Her father, Alamin Khan, said he could not yet say what had caused his daughter’s death.
Zahirul Alam, officer-in-charge of Kalkini police station, said police had visited the scene. Why Mim jumped from the roof cannot be said for certain, he said. Police have learned that she married only a short while ago and that her husband lives abroad.
