Film actress Moushumi has appeared only occasionally on the big screen for several years. She has lived in the United States since mid-2023, where she looks after her ailing mother and supports her daughter Faiza’s studies. Now her wish to live in the US permanently has come true.

Moushumi was once one of the most popular heroines of Dhallywood, and over a long career she starred in a great many hit films.

She has received a US green card after waiting three years. She announced the news herself on a programme on a private television channel on Saturday.

A US green card allows the holder to live and work in the country permanently. Although she had been living there, Moushumi did not have permission to stay permanently. The green card ends that wait.

Though she lives in the US, Moushumi has not left acting altogether. She recently joined a new film, titled ‘A Beautiful Lie’.

Moushumi made her big-screen debut in 1993 in Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s ‘Keyamot Theke Keyamot’, opposite Salman Shah. She caught audiences’ attention with that first film and went on to establish herself as one of the country’s leading heroines through a string of popular films.

Over her long career Moushumi has acted in more than 200 films. In recognition of her contribution to cinema she won the National Film Award, for her roles in Nargis Akter’s ‘Meghla Akash’ and Chashi Nazrul Islam’s ‘Devdas’. Although she started out paired with Salman Shah, she later formed successful screen partnerships with Omar Sani, Riaz, Ferdous, Ilias Kanchan and Manna.

Besides acting, she has also worked as a director. Her first film as director was ‘Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti’. In 2006 she made ‘Meher Nigar’. Her other films as director include ‘Shunno Hridoy’ and ‘Bhalobashboi To’.

Her other popular films include ‘Attoahongkar’, ‘Sneho’, ‘Prothom Prem’, ‘Denmohor’, ‘Ontore Ontore’, ‘Bidrohi’, ‘Bodhu’, ‘Muktir Songram’, ‘Harano Prem’, ‘Bhangchur’, ‘Sajan’, ‘Bishwa Premik’, ‘Goriber Rani’, ‘Rakkhosh’, ‘Adorer Sontan’, ‘Sukher Ghore Dukher Agun’, ‘Luttoraj’, ‘Ammajan’ and ‘Golapi Ekhon Bilatey’.

Having won a place in audiences’ hearts over a long career, the actress is now set to begin a new chapter living permanently in the United States.
