A mobile court has fined a man named Md Ismail Tk 10,000 for transporting TSP fertiliser without a valid purchase receipt in Gomostapur, Chapainawabganj. The 18 sacks of TSP he was carrying were seized and later sold to local farmers at the government-set price.

The drive was conducted at about 2pm on Friday, 16 October, in the Akkelpur area of Radhanagar union in the upazila by assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate Chowdhury Al Mahmud.

According to those involved in the drive, Md Ismail was stopped while carrying 18 sacks of TSP fertiliser without a valid receipt. The seized fertiliser is worth an estimated Tk 24,300. When he could not show the necessary papers or give a satisfactory answer, the mobile court fined him Tk 10,000 and ordered the fertiliser seized.

Additional agriculture officer Md Hasan Atikur Rahman acted as prosecutor.

The seized fertiliser was then put in the custody of local sub-assistant agriculture officer Ganiul Islam and UP member Sirajul Islam, in whose presence it was sold to local farmers at the government price. The Tk 24,300 from the sale has been collected to be paid into the government treasury.

The upazila administration said such drives will continue to protect farmers’ interests, prevent illegal trade in fertiliser and ensure the proper distribution of farm inputs.
