5 businesses fined in Rangpur consumer rights raid

Officials from the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate’s Rangpur divisional and district offices inspected various chilling centres, feed shops and meat shops during a drive in the city.

During the drive, Rangpur Dairy Products was fined 25,000 taka, Pran Dairy 10,000 taka, Maa Traders 7,000 taka, Abowa Banijya Bhandar 6,000 taka, and Habibar Gosht Ghar 2,000 taka. The total fine of 50,000 taka imposed was collected on the spot.

Present during the drive were Md Jahangir Alam, deputy director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate’s Rangpur divisional office; Md Mostafizur Rahman, assistant director of the Rangpur district office; the Badarganj upazila livestock officer; officials from the Rangpur district safe food authority; and members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force.

After the drive, Md Jahangir Alam, deputy director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate’s Rangpur divisional office, said such market monitoring and enforcement drives would continue in the public interest.
