Lionel Messi is one of the greatest stars of football today. The Argentine legend recently retired from international football, but he continues to excel in club football.

On Saturday night Inter Miami beat Atlanta United 3-1, with Messi scoring two goals through individual brilliance.

Impressed by his performance, Inter Miami coach Cristian Gonzalez said after the match: “Messi can surprise the whole world every time. Someone playing football like this at 39, you would not believe it unless you saw it.”

In the last moments of the first half on Saturday, Germán Berterame put Miami ahead from a Messi pass. In the second half the Argentine superstar scored twice in four minutes.

In the 56th minute Messi carried the ball from the right towards goal, went into the penalty area, wrong-footed a defender and scored with a low left-footed shot.

In the 60th minute he scored again in the same way, this time running on to a pass from Luis Suárez. An Atlanta defender came across but could not stop him, and Messi beat goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos to score his second and seal the win. Fafà Picault later scored for Atlanta.
