Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has said: “The damage the interim government did in a year and a half cannot be described. Those in the administration may know about it.
“They planned to stay in power for a long time through various conspiracies. The people did not let that happen.”
He said: “It will take a year to resolve the gas crisis. Even so, the government is importing as much as it can and supplying gas.”
He spoke at the opening of a social protection distribution and tree fair organised by the Bakshiganj upazila administration on Friday afternoon, 16 October.
“It is our misfortune that wars broke out around the world just after we took power: Iran, Ukraine, and now Saudi Arabia,” he said. “For various reasons we have fallen into an economic crisis. This economic crisis is worldwide.”
The minister said: “The damage the then fascist Awami League did to the country over 17 years, it did. The damage the interim government did in the last year and a half cannot be described. In Europe a litre of diesel costs three hundred and fifty taka in Bangladeshi money. Yet some uncivilised people in our country stir up ordinary people and tell them to protest against the government for no reason. A bot army wants to spread confusion with false information. The bot army is always after the government and the administration. We must watch out for that, and I ask journalists for their help.”
He said the government is determined to give people relief. “There will be no compromise with drugs. We must stay alert against drugs. We are ready to expel from the party anyone in it who does wrong. The government is also trying to bring everything back to normal.”
Later the minister planted an arjun sapling on the upazila parishad premises, handed government assistance to puja mandaps, gave saplings to students and distributed grant cheques to poor and needy people. The administration gave him a reception.
The event, in the upazila auditorium, was chaired by upazila nirbahi officer Murad Hossain.
Among others, assistant commissioner (land) Asma Ul Husna, agriculture officer Aminul Islam, additional superintendent of police (Dewanganj circle) Junaid Afrad, OC Maqbul Hossain, Bakshiganj upazila BNP president Manik Sawdagar and general secretary Zahidul Islam Prince, municipal BNP president Advocate Anisuzzaman Gama and general secretary Saiful Islam Shakil Talukder, upazila Jubo Dal convener Abdullah Sawdagar Biplob, central Chhatra Dal vice-president Shahjahan Shaon, upazila Swechchhasebak Dal convener Ashikur Rahman Tulon and Mohila Dal president Shanti Akter Shiuli spoke.
