FIFA president Gianni Infantino is due to visit Thimphu, Bhutan, tomorrow, Sunday.
With no direct flights to Thimphu, he may break his journey in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is making the necessary preparations in case he transits through Dhaka.
BFF president Tabith Awal and executive committee member Imtiaz Hamid Sabuj met Infantino two weeks ago during the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia, and the matter was reportedly discussed then. The FIFA president could transit through Saidpur, Dhaka or an airport in India. The BFF has still had no confirmation of whether he will stop in Bangladesh, but the governing body is preparing for the possibility.
The BFF general secretary went to the foreign ministry this afternoon to complete the formalities. The aim is to have immigration and other procedures ready to be done quickly if the FIFA president transits through Dhaka and wishes to enter.
If Infantino stays in the airport’s VIP zone, BFF president Tabith Awal and the vice-presidents may meet him there. Everything depends on the FIFA president’s route and his decision on where to transit.
