Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations have held a human chain demanding the cancellation of a fertiliser dealer’s appointment in Kazihal union of Fulbari upazila, Dinajpur. They allege corruption, nepotism, money changing hands and the involvement of Awami League leaders and activists in the appointment.
The human chain was organised by Kazihal union BNP and its affiliated organisations at Atpukur Haat in the upazila on Sunday morning (18 October).
Speakers alleged irregularities and nepotism in the process of appointing Md Akkas Ali, owner of the firm Messrs Jinnat Sarkar, as fertiliser dealer for Kazihal union. They called the appointment illegal and demanded it be cancelled.
They further alleged that the appointment had been obtained by paying a large sum to the then upazila nirbahi officer.
The human chain demanded a swift and impartial investigation by higher authorities into the allegations about the appointment process. Speakers also called for the current appointment to be cancelled and a new dealer to be appointed on the basis of transparency and merit.
