Students who won merit and general scholarships in the Dakhil examinations will be able to study without paying tuition fees, and their scholarship money will be sent directly to their bank accounts. Scholarship holders must submit their bank account numbers to their own institutions within the next seven days.

The Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board recently published the list of scholarship winners based on this year’s Dakhil results. A notice signed by the board’s registrar, Professor SM Tauhiduzzaman, said regular students who passed the Dakhil exam with GPA 5 have received merit scholarships, while students were selected for general scholarships under the set policy.

The minimum qualification for a scholarship is GPA 3, excluding the fourth subject. Scholarships are allocated equally, 50 percent each, to male and female students, and split between the science and general streams at a ratio of 3:2.

To keep their scholarships, students must attend classes regularly, behave well and make satisfactory progress in their studies. Only students who sat and passed the exam as regular candidates are eligible, and irregular students will not be considered. Only students at government-approved institutions will receive scholarships.

The notice made clear that no approved institution may charge monthly fees to students holding merit or general scholarships, and all of them will study free of charge. Disciplinary action will be taken against any institution that demands monthly fees from scholarship holders. Students will receive their scholarship money in a lump sum each year for the length of their course.

The money will be sent directly to students’ bank accounts by electronic funds transfer (EFT) under the G2P system. Students must open an account at a scheduled bank in Bangladesh with online banking and submit the account number to their institution within the next seven days. If a scholarship holder moves to another institution, the heads of both the old and new institutions must inform the Directorate of Madrasah Education. Students enrolled at more than one institution will not be able to draw the money.

A break in studies of up to one year will be accepted for late admission, a change of institution or subject, or illness, provided the conditions for continuing the scholarship are met. The notice also said the government may change or cancel the number, amount and duration of scholarships if needed, and the board reserves the right to correct any errors and, if necessary, cancel a scholarship.

The money will be paid from the scholarship and merit scholarship heads of the revenue budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
