Security forces in Uganda have arrested a man accused of killing and eating 38 people over the past 15 years, the country’s military chief said. The accused has been named as Muzurizi Moses.
He is alleged to have committed the crimes in the Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo districts between 2010 and 2025. The military chief described Moses as one of the worst serial killers and cannibals in the country’s history and said he would be tried in public. NDTV reported the arrest.
In a post on X, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote: “I am happy to inform the citizens that our security forces have arrested the terrible Muzurizi Moses. He is the worst serial killer and cannibal in the history of Uganda. Between 2010 and 2025 he killed and ate 38 people in Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo. We shall try him in public.”
Moses is accused of a string of brutal killings over many years. According to local investigators, he targeted whole families, breaking into homes and attacking the people inside with a machete.
The outlet Metro reported that in the most brutal case, his accomplices broke into the home of Pentecostal pastor Steven Mugambe and hacked everyone inside to death.
In other cases, he allegedly lured victims with the promise of a relationship and then killed them. Moses had been caught several times before but escaped or was released in disputed circumstances.
After the arrest, officials recovered several pieces of evidence from the accused’s home. Investigators are also examining records of unsolved disappearances and killings in the region to establish whether Moses is linked to them.
