Hundreds of supporters of Palestine held a protest rally in front of the British prime minister’s office on the eve of Israel’s parliamentary election. Protesting against rising attacks by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank, they demanded an immediate end to the repression and blockade of Palestinians.
The rally was held outside 10 Downing Street in London on Monday evening, October 26.
Participants carried Palestinian flags and placards condemning the Israeli government. They chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian people and demanded an end to the occupation, an end to the demolition of homes and the lifting of the blockade on the West Bank.
Under the main slogan “Hands off the West Bank, end apartheid”, the protesters warned of the rise in attacks by Israeli troops and the spread of violence by Jewish settlers. They called on the British government to increase political and diplomatic pressure on Israel to stop these actions.
The emergency rally was called by a coalition of pro-Palestinian groups, among them the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, the British Palestinian Forum, the Stop the War Coalition, the Muslim Association of Britain and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
