At least six people have been killed in a sudden gun attack at a hotel in Guwahati, capital of the Indian state of Assam. Several others were injured.
The shooting took place on Monday evening at Hotel Bilas Inn on GS Road in Guwahati’s Bora Service area. Police have arrested two suspects.
Those killed include the hotel’s owner, Helena Bharali, her son Debarshi Kashyap, and her driver. Three others, including Narayan Das, who had been injured, died while being treated at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, and initial inquiries point to a family dispute over property ownership as a possible motive.
According to initial reports, four people came to the hotel before the shooting, and seven rounds were fired. The sequence of events and the identities and roles of those involved are under investigation.
Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta confirmed the casualties and said an investigation had begun.
