Health and family welfare minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said: “We will not accept anyone’s domination. We want friendship based on mutual interest.”
“Now the forces defeated in 1971 have joined hands with India,” he said. “Meanwhile, the threat comes from India of entering the country in December, and from here they say they will bring us down in December. The defeated razakars of 1971 and the collaborators of the fascist Awami League — these two defeated forces have now come together.”
He was speaking as chief guest at about 11am on Thursday (September 24) at the opening of the Katabaria complaint centre under the Monohardi zonal office of Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-2 in Monohardi, Narsingdi.
“The fascist Awami government smuggled millions of dollars abroad in the name of quick rentals,” the minister said. “Eight of our gas-fired power plants are shut down. To the left of our Bay of Bengal, Myanmar extracts gas from the sea, and to the right, India extracts gas. And to please India, they did not drill a single gas well in our country.”
“We are now trying to bring in gas at a higher price to run these plants,” he said. “We are going to drill several gas wells at sea through foreign companies. Inshallah, once those wells are drilled, we will get enough gas and we will generate electricity.”
The health minister also said that if India does not share water fairly, a Teesta barrage will be built with China’s help to hold back water in the monsoon.
The event was chaired by Mohammad Abdul Kuddus, general manager of Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-2. Those present included Monohardi upazila nirbahi officer Mahmudul Hasan, engineer Fazilat Rabbi Mumimah, deputy general manager of the Monohardi zonal office, Monohardi police station officer-in-charge Jahangir Badsha and Kachikata union BNP president Mohammad Faruk Hossain.
