Hasnat Abdullah, a member of parliament and senior joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused the BNP of wanting to become like the Awami League by taking the benefits of every revolution.
He made the accusation on Saturday afternoon (7 November) at a special discussion marking the historic 7 November, held at the NCP’s central office in Bangla Motor in the capital.
Hasnat said, “Although the BNP presents 7 November as a day of revolution, it sometimes calls the mass uprising of ’24 a disturbance. They are contradicting themselves in this position. This inferiority complex has come from their failure to claim ’24 as theirs alone.”
He also said the present government, instead of discussing the Awami League’s crimes and trials, is discussing its rehabilitation. They want to become like the Awami League by taking the benefits of every revolution, he said, adding that the BNP is in fact a failed Awami League and the Awami League a successful one.
The NCP senior joint convener also said no one would be freed of historical responsibility without giving the present generation a welfare state.
He said, “The BNP government has ruined the journey of repairing the state that began with ’24. Bangladesh is a vehicle without a fitness certificate, and its driver is Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. We wanted to put him in the vehicle after it had been fixed. But because the BNP put him in the vehicle with the beating of drums, he cannot drive it.”
Saying he did not want to face questions in the future, Hasnat added, “The market and inflation are not under control, and there is no investment in the economy. We want to make sure, through a joint effort, that we do not stand in the dock of the future.”
