Pakistan has carried out air strikes on 10 locations in neighbouring Afghanistan, Pakistani information minister Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday. No casualties have been reported so far.
Islamabad says the sites were used to launch and store drones. Tarar said some of those drones had been used in attacks on Pakistan the day before.
The strikes come amid rising tension between the two neighbours, who have long been at odds over attacks by armed groups. In February, the dispute drew Islamabad and Kabul into their worst fighting in years.
Islamabad accuses Afghanistan of allowing armed groups to use its territory to launch cross-border attacks into Pakistan, a charge the Taliban government has always denied.
The Taliban government says it does not shelter armed groups opposed to Pakistan and that terrorism is Pakistan’s internal problem.
In a post on X, Tarar said Pakistan’s air defences detected drones flying in from Afghanistan on Wednesday and destroyed them before they reached their targets.
Pakistani forces then carried out “precise” air and drone strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan, targeting identified military facilities linked to the drone attacks. No one was killed or injured, Tarar said.
“If the Taliban government carries out any such provocative acts in future, Pakistan will give a firm and harsh response,” the minister said.
