Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said the previous government set up drug dens through dealers in neighbourhoods across the country. “Who comes and who goes is no headache of ours. We want to work for the country,” he said.
He was speaking as chief guest at a community policing rally against drugs, terrorism, extortion, corruption, teen gangs and extremism, organised by the district police in Bagerhat on Sunday.
The IGP said the rally was held to build awareness against drugs, terrorism, extortion, corruption, teen gangs and extremism.
The police want to take effective action against drugs, terrorism, extortion and corruption and work towards a crime-free society, he said, and the public’s cooperation and social awareness are vital to that. He said 27 police officers have been sent to jail for various offences.
Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Karim and Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten attended as special guests. Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Md Jamirul Islam presided.
The rally stressed rooting out drugs, preventing teen gangs, improving law and order, and closer cooperation between the police and the public.
