Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that the war with the United States is continuing and that Iran will respond more harshly if Washington carries out further attacks.

The force’s spokesman, Mohebi, said the conflict with the United States is being fought on both the military and the economic front, Al Jazeera reported.

“We are at war with the enemy, on both the military and the economic front,” Mohebi said in an interview with Iran’s Fars news agency. “Naturally, in the middle of a war they may attack one of our ships. But we will strike back even harder.”

The IRGC spokesman also spoke about a new US effort to stop goods and supplies moving across Iran’s land borders.

“Whatever version of economic blockade the United States wants to impose, it will never succeed,” he said.

The US military earlier announced a special 20-member task force to disrupt supply routes into Iran over land. Washington says weapons and illicit goods are moved along those routes. The initiative, called “Iron Gate”, aims to obstruct the land crossings through which goods enter Iran.

The move extends the US naval blockade of Iran’s ports. Tensions have risen further over the two countries’ eight-month war. Tehran, for its part, has restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international trade route, causing major disruption to energy supplies worldwide.
