Saudi Arabia has eased e-visa and visa-on-arrival access for four countries to expand its tourism sector and strengthen international ties. Under a joint decision of the country’s foreign and tourism ministries, citizens of Mexico, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia will now receive the facility.
Under the new rules, residents of these four countries will no longer have to go through lengthy embassy procedures to travel to Saudi Arabia. Using their own passports, they can apply online for a multiple-entry e-visa, or receive a visa on arrival at any Saudi port or airport.
With this visa, visitors can not only travel around the country but also perform Umrah, attend international conferences and exhibitions, and visit relatives living in Saudi Arabia. Diplomats from various countries see the move as a major milestone for bilateral trade, tourism and cultural ties.
The Saudi tourism ministry has, however, reminded visitors of some restrictions. Holders of this tourist visa may not take paid employment or work in Saudi Arabia. While Umrah is allowed, it is completely barred on this visa during the official Hajj season, and those who overstay the visa’s validity will face fines.
