Iran has declared Britain’s intelligence agency MI6 a “hostile group” and the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force “terrorist organisations”. Tehran said the decision was a response to London’s “hostile” actions.
A statement from Iran’s foreign ministry said the step answers Britain’s participation in the US and Israeli war against Iran and its decision to list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the new State Threats Act 2026.
The statement said the decision was put into effect on a proposal of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in response to various steps the UK has taken over the past year. The foreign ministry also restated Tehran’s firm stand on protecting its national security and interests.
Britain listed the IRGC under the new law in July. The law allows foreign state bodies considered a threat to national security to be placed on a banned list.
Under the law, anyone in the UK who assists or supports the IRGC faces up to 14 years in prison. Iran’s declaration is expected to raise diplomatic tension between Tehran and London further.
