Hasnat Abdullah, a member of parliament and senior joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused the BNP of wanting to take advantage of every revolution to become like the Awami League.
He made the accusation on Saturday afternoon (7 November) at a special discussion marking the historic 7 November, held at the NCP’s central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
“Although the BNP presents 7 November as a day of revolution, it sometimes calls the 2024 mass uprising a disturbance. It is contradicting itself on this,” Hasnat said. “This sense of inferiority comes from its failure to claim ’24 as its own alone.”
He said the current government, instead of discussing the Awami League’s crimes and bringing them to justice, is discussing its rehabilitation. “They want to take advantage of every revolution and become like the Awami League. In fact, the BNP is a failed Awami League, and the Awami League is a successful Awami League,” he said.
The NCP senior joint convener also said no one would be freed from historic responsibility without giving the present generation a welfare state.
“The BNP government has wrecked the journey of repairing the state that began with ’24,” he said. “Bangladesh is a vehicle without a fitness certificate, and its driver is Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. We wanted to put him in the vehicle after it was fixed. But because the BNP put him in the vehicle with drums beating, he cannot drive it.”
Saying he did not want to face questions in the future, Hasnat added: “The market and inflation are not under control, and there is no investment in the economy. We want joint efforts so that we do not end up in the dock of the future.”
