A mobile court has seized 288 sacks of illegally hoarded fertiliser in a raid in Sripur, Magura. A man named Jamirul Islam has been fined 30,000 taka and sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment for his involvement.
The fertiliser was seized in a raid on a shop at Tikarbila bazar in the upazila on Thursday afternoon.
According to local people and the agriculture office, the Sripur upazila assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate, Asmaul Husna Pinky, acted on secret information and raided Jamirul Islam’s shop at Tikarbila bazar over allegations that fertiliser was being hoarded there illegally. The upazila agriculture officer, agriculturist Humayun Kabir, and the sub-assistant agriculture officer, Selina Yasmin, were present. The raid seized 139 sacks of TSP and 149 sacks of DAP fertiliser that had been hoarded illegally.
The upazila agriculture officer, agriculturist Humayun Kabir, said the man had stockpiled the fertiliser with dishonest intent and was not a trader. “We are monitoring the market, including dealers, sub-dealers and retailers. We have seized fertiliser, imposed fines and filed cases in several raids, and such operations will continue.”
The assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate, Asmaul Husna Pinky, said 288 sacks of illegally hoarded fertiliser had been seized in the raid and Jamirul Islam had been fined 30,000 taka and sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment. Mobile court operations of this kind will continue, she said.
