The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West), has uncovered about 3.76 crore taka in tax evasion by J-Creation, an online seller of ready-made garments. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) said a surprise raid was conducted on J-Creation’s office in the capital’s Mirpur Section-12 area on September 13, on the commissioner’s orders based on a confidential tip-off.
The company sells panjabis, sherwanis and various ready-made garments online. During the raid, after signs of VAT evasion were found, the company’s CPU and various documents were seized through Mushak-12.3 form for further scrutiny.
After verifying the seized documents and the company’s sales-related information, tax evasion of approximately 3.76 crore taka has been identified in the initial assessment. The collected documents are being further examined. Legal proceedings, including filing a case over the tax evasion, are currently underway.
