The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has fixed the fee for the health check of workers seeking jobs in Malaysia at Tk 8,000 per person.
The ministry announced this in a notice published on its Facebook page on Saturday (31 October).
No money may be charged above the set fee. Workers have been told to inform the ministry if any medical centre demands more or harasses them.
The notice said no worker would have to pay more than the Tk 8,000 set for the medical test. Cautioning workers on the matter, the ministry advised them not to contact any broker or middleman.
It also said no medical centre would work under any particular recruiting agency. Workers selected to go to Malaysia can have their health check at any approved medical centre.
Even if one agency issues a worker’s medical slip, the worker may later decide to go through another agency. In that case the first agency must send on the medical report without delay. The notice said no excuse or objection from the agency that issued the slip would be accepted.
Workers have been asked to inform the ministry immediately if any medical centre demands more than the set Tk 8,000, or causes harassment, delay or any other problem, by email to secretary@probashi.gov.bd. The ministry said no fee is payable for the MIGRAMS slip.
The notice said the ministry would regularly monitor and inspect the work of the medical centres. Strict legal action will be taken against any medical centre found to be involved in irregularities or discrepancies. Malaysia-bound workers, recruiting agencies and medical centres have been urged to follow the instructions properly.
Health checks for workers wishing to work in Malaysia began at the approved medical centres on Saturday (31 October). The ministry said a health check done before then would not be accepted and would not be considered for emigration clearance.
