The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices on the domestic market again. Less than 24 hours after the last change, the price of gold has gone up by as much as Tk 1,633 a bhori. A bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery now costs Tk 224,707 including VAT.
The new prices took effect at 10am on Thursday.
In a statement, BAJUS said the prices were adjusted because the price of tejabi (pure) gold had risen on the local market.
Under the new prices, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold, including VAT, has gone up by Tk 1,633 to Tk 224,707. A bhori of 21-carat gold has risen by Tk 1,575 to Tk 214,618, and 18-carat gold by Tk 1,341 to Tk 184,291. Gold of the traditional grade has gone up by Tk 1,108 to Tk 150,582 a bhori.
BAJUS said making charges will apply to jewellery according to design. It also said that because VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, it may not be charged to customers separately.
Under BAJUS’s instructions, 12 per cent is to be deducted when jewellery is exchanged and 18 per cent when old gold is bought, excluding making charges and the price of stones. VAT may not be deducted separately when jewellery is exchanged or bought. The prices apply at all jewellery shops in the country until a further decision.
BAJUS last adjusted prices on Wednesday morning, raising them by Tk 2,216 a bhori. That put 22-carat gold at Tk 223,074 a bhori including VAT, 21-carat at Tk 213,043, 18-carat at Tk 182,950 and the traditional grade at Tk 149,474.
So far this year, BAJUS has adjusted the price of gold on the domestic market 128 times: 62 increases, 65 cuts and one adjustment for VAT.
In 2025, gold prices were adjusted 93 times in all, with 64 increases and 29 cuts.
