Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized an Indian cow in a special operation on the Dimla border in Nilphamari.
The cow was seized at about 3.30am on Wednesday (September 23) in the Jharsingheswar border area of the upazila.
BGB sources said an operational team from Jharsingheswar border outpost, under the Rangpur battalion (51 BGB), acted on secret information. The patrol, led by BGB subedar Md Rafiqul Islam, took up position in the Jharsingheswar area about 500 yards inside Bangladesh from the international border pillar.
During the operation the patrol saw several people bringing livestock illegally into Bangladesh from the Indian border area. Sensing the BGB’s presence, the smugglers abandoned the cattle and fled back across the Indian border under cover of darkness. The patrol then searched the scene and the surrounding area and seized one Indian cow. Its institutional seizure value has been put at about 45,000 taka.
The acting commanding officer of the Rangpur battalion (51 BGB) told the media that further legal action over the seized animal has been taken through customs under the applicable laws and rules. The battalion’s close surveillance and regular patrols to prevent illegal cattle crossings, drugs, smuggling and every other kind of border crime will continue, he said.
