The death toll in the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip has risen to 73,449 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Meanwhile, a Palestinian human rights organization says thousands of people remain missing.
According to health ministry figures, nine more Palestinians were killed in Gaza over the past 48 hours. Eighteen others were injured during this period. Several more bodies have been recovered from the rubble. This brings the death toll from the ongoing Israeli assault since October 2023 to 73,449, with the number of wounded reaching 174,472.
Attacks and casualties have continued even after the Gaza ceasefire took effect. Since the ceasefire took effect, 1,313 Palestinians have been killed and 4,361 injured in Israeli attacks and other violations.
Meanwhile, a study by the Palestinian Center for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared says roughly 2,500 to 3,000 people may have been forcibly disappeared during the Gaza war. The study bases this estimate on an analysis of a sample of 317 cases.
In addition, many people remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings. As a result, the actual death toll in Gaza is feared to be higher than the officially published figures.
The war, which began in October 2023, has caused extensive damage to Gaza’s residential areas, hospitals, infrastructure and other civilian facilities. Despite the ceasefire, casualties have continued to occur in Gaza in recent days.
