Ranbir was once caught sneaking off to see Katrina

Bollywood’s chatter about Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s old romance still refuses to fade. Their much-discussed relationship, which began on the sets of “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani,” was once one of B-town’s biggest “open secrets.” In the early days of their relationship, however, the star couple tried everything to keep their romance hidden from the media.

Around that time, Ranbir once snatched a journalist’s camera and microphone after they filmed a private moment he shared with Katrina. Nikita Dalvi, the journalist involved at the time, recently recounted that sensational incident in an interview.

In an interview with entertainment platform Hindi Rush, Nikita said that at the time, news of Ranbir and Katrina’s romance had not yet become official. One night, word came in that Ranbir had gone to Katrina’s house and would be leaving around 1:30am.

On getting the tip, a group of paparazzi hid near Katrina’s house by 1am. When Ranbir came out to drive off, he sensed the journalists were there, covered his face with a cap, and sped away. That was how their secret romance was exposed for the first time.

The real drama, though, happened on a different day. Nikita recalled that, after attending a funeral for someone they knew, the couple had gone to secretly meet at an empty flat belonging to Katrina’s manager in Bandra. A media team had already arrived there after getting a tip. As soon as Katrina stepped out of the car, the cameras switched on. Ranbir rolled down the car window, spotted the journalists, and tried to explain that he had only come to drop Katrina off.

But the real incident happened 10 minutes later. Ranbir pretended to leave, drove a short distance away, then suddenly turned back and chased the journalists. Not only that — growing angry, he opened the door of the press car and took the journalists’ camera bag and boom microphone.

Nikita said Ranbir set a condition: he would only return the equipment if they agreed to stop following the couple. But journalist Nikita wasn’t one to back down easily either. She made clear that following celebrities was part of their job, so no such agreement was possible. Eventually, seeing the journalist’s stubbornness and realising his approach wouldn’t work, Ranbir reined in his anger and was forced to return the equipment.

Notably, after years of an intense relationship, Ranbir and Katrina’s much-discussed romance eventually ended. Both later moved on with their lives. Ranbir married Alia Bhatt in 2022 and settled down, and the couple had a daughter, Raha.

Katrina Kaif, meanwhile, fell in love with and married Vicky Kaushal in 2021, and became the mother of a son, Vihaan, in late 2025.
