Inflationary pressure in Bangladesh has eased somewhat. The overall inflation rate fell to 8.26% in August, down from 8.32% in July — a drop of 0.72 percentage points in a month.
The figures were released Monday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Food prices played a major role in August’s decline in inflation. Food inflation fell from 7.16% in July to 7.02% in August. In the same month last year, food inflation stood at 7.60%.
Non-food inflation, meanwhile, rose slightly, climbing from 9.28% in July to 9.32% in August. Non-food inflation stood at 8.90% in August of last year.
The national average wage growth rate stood at 8.05% in August, down from 8.22% in July.
