Rupganj police have arrested two men and seized 642 bottles of the codeine cough syrup Phensedyl from a stone-laden truck heading for Kanchan on the 300-feet road in Purbachal New Town, Narayanganj. The truck used to carry the drugs was also seized.
The arrested are Shimul Mia, 32, and Yamin Ali, 35. Police said both live in Rajshahi district. They were sent to a Narayanganj court on Sunday (1 November) in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Police caught them on Saturday night after a chase from the 300-feet road to the nearby Burulia area.
Rupganj police station’s officer-in-charge, AHM Salauddin, said a police patrol on the 300-feet road signalled the stone-laden truck to stop on Saturday night. The driver tried to flee, police gave chase and stopped the truck, and a search found 642 bottles of Phensedyl.
Shimul Mia and Yamin Ali were arrested and the truck seized, the OC said. Assistant Sub-Inspector Sujan Mia filed the case against them at Rupganj police station under the Narcotics Control Act.
