Students in grades 3 to 10 at government and private schools in Dhaka South City Corporation will be able to visit museums, archaeological sites and historic landmarks free of charge from January 1, 2027.

Dhaka South and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday to provide direct learning about Bangladesh’s history, heritage, art, culture and Liberation War.

The first visits under the agreement will begin on January 1, 2027.

Dhaka South Administrator freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam said the initiative would give students a new opportunity to learn about the country’s history and heritage.

He thanked the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh National Museum, Ministry of Education, Department of Archaeology and other organizations for supporting the initiative.

Culture Secretary Yasmin Begum said the goal was to develop students’ creativity, aesthetic sense and cultural values through practical experiences beyond textbooks.

Dhaka South will arrange transportation and food for participating students and oversee safety and coordination.

The Culture Ministry will work through relevant institutions to organize guided tours, exhibition visits, quizzes, drawing competitions, essay contests and other educational activities.

Students from disadvantaged families and those with disabilities will receive priority in selection.

The agreement will initially remain in effect for one year and may be extended in duration and scope after review.

Dhaka South Chief Executive Officer Md Khaibar Rahman, Bangladesh National Museum Director General Tanjim Ibn Wahab and representatives of several organizations attended the signing.
