Detectives have arrested a 22-year-old man in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, on allegations that he operated illegal online gambling through mobile apps.

Police identified the suspect as Salauddin and said two smartphones allegedly used for gambling were seized from him.

A Detective Branch team received information while conducting law-enforcement duties in Shyamnagar that an organized group had long operated online gambling through mobile apps from the home of Mukul Sana in Garkumarpur village.

Police raided the house early Monday. Several people allegedly involved tried to flee after detecting the officers’ presence, but police detained Salauddin, Mukul Sana’s son, after a chase.

Officers later seized two smartphones from his possession.

Satkhira Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Mahmudur Rahman said police filed a case under the Gambling Prevention Act at Shyamnagar Police Station.
