Only one of 17 HSC candidates at Jibannagar Technical School and College in Chuadanga passed this year’s examination despite the institution employing 15 teachers.
The result produced a pass rate of 5.88 percent and raised questions about teaching quality, student attendance and academic oversight.
The result became public after HSC and equivalent examination results were released at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The institution began operations in the 2001 academic year. It employs 15 teachers and a total of 22 officers and staff at the college level.
Of the 17 candidates, 16 failed, and no one received a GPA-5.
Across four general colleges in Jibannagar upazila, the combined pass rate in the 2026 HSC examination was 52.64 percent.
Of 804 registered candidates at those colleges, 777 sat the examination. A total of 409 passed and 18 received GPA-5.
At the upazila’s sole technical college, one of 17 candidates passed. Across all five institutions, 410 students passed.
Residents called for an examination of student attendance, classroom teaching, teacher accountability and academic supervision.
Some residents alleged that irregular classes and insufficient attention to students had damaged educational standards.
Acting principal engineer Imrul Quadir said the result was disappointing. He attributed it to irregular attendance, weak preparation, inattentiveness and shortages of classrooms and teachers.
Students were particularly weak in higher mathematics, English and information technology, he said.
The college is reviewing the result and plans to improve attendance, provide special lessons for struggling students and take steps to raise educational quality, Quadir said.
