Eight people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours. Over the same period, 1,782 people with dengue were admitted to hospitals across the country. The death toll for this year now stands at 209.
The figures come from the dengue dashboard of the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room, published on Thursday.
Between 8am on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday, 164 dengue patients were admitted in Barishal division, 288 in Chattogram, 371 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 151 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 194 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 286 in Khulna, 108 in Mymensingh, 130 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur and 17 in Sylhet. Over the same period, 1,757 patients were discharged after recovering.
Total dengue infections since January have risen to 69,149, and 209 people have died this year, the directorate said. Two deaths were recorded in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Of all those infected so far, 62.5 per cent are male and 37.5 per cent female.
