A total of 747 people were hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, though no deaths were reported during that period. Altogether, the country has recorded 79 dengue deaths and 23,301 infections in the first 17 days of this month. The figures were released on Friday in a dengue-related press release from the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The release said that, from 8am Thursday to 8am Friday, those hospitalised with dengue included 25 people in Barisal division, 180 in Chattogram, 216 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 61 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 40 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 81 in Khulna, 92 in Mymensingh and 52 in Rangpur division. During the same period, 746 patients recovered and were discharged from hospital.
The DGHS said the total number of dengue infections so far this year, from January onward, has risen to 59,147, with 176 deaths recorded in total. Of those deaths, two occurred in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Among all those infected with dengue so far this year, 62.6 percent are male and 37.4 percent female.
