A new gas reserve has been found at a well in Companyganj, Noakhali, with preliminary estimates of up to 7 million cubic feet a day.

The discovery was made on Monday, November 2, after drilling at a well at Sundalpur South-1 in Rampur union. The gas is expected to be connected to the national grid.

The quantity will be confirmed after a drill-stem test. BAPEX drilling in-charge Rakibul Hasan said gas was confirmed by lighting a flare after the drilling work ended at noon. The flare was later extinguished because of excessive heat.

He said the Fire Service had been notified and another flare would be lit in its presence.
