The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the filing of two separate cases against the former mayor of Jashore municipality, Md Zahirul Islam Chakladar, and his wife, Shamima Sharmin.
The information was given at an ACC press briefing on Wednesday.
According to the ACC, Zahirul Islam Chakladar is accused of acquiring assets worth 24 crore 58 lakh 45 thousand 221 taka that are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The case against him will be filed under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
His wife, Shamima Sharmin, is accused of acquiring assets worth 6 crore 72 lakh 9 thousand 453 taka inconsistent with her known sources of income. Her husband, Zahirul Islam Chakladar, will be named as an accomplice in that case.
The separate case against her will be filed under section 27(1) of the act and section 109 of the penal code.
