Five-day Pakistan trade exhibition opens in Dhaka

A five-day exhibition showcasing Pakistani products and business opportunities has begun in Dhaka. The fourth Made in Pakistan Exhibition and Business Investment Conference, organised by the Pakistan Association of Exhibition Industry (PAEI), was opened on Tuesday at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.

The chief guest at the opening was Arif Hussain, vice-chairman of Pakistan’s Export Promotion Bureau. Pakistan’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, the PAEI’s founding chairman Khurshid Barlas and its chairman Fahad Barlas were among those present.

The exhibition features a range of Pakistani goods and services, including textiles, food products, electrical equipment, kitchenware and crockery, consumer goods, footwear, household products, gems and jewellery, fashion and fabrics, machinery and equipment, handicrafts, and tourism and hospitality services.

The organisers said more than 5,000 visitors and delegates attended and showed interest in Pakistani products and in business opportunities between the two countries. Commemorative awards were presented at the event to prominent figures in recognition of their contribution to organising the exhibition and strengthening business ties.

Alongside Pakistani companies, brands and entrepreneurs, Bangladeshi business representatives are also taking part. The exhibition has created a platform for businesspeople in the two countries to explore new commercial opportunities and strengthen economic relations.

In his welcome address at the opening, Fahad Barlas said the exhibition would help strengthen relations and business links between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Noting that leading Pakistani brands were taking part, he stressed the need for greater economic engagement among the countries of the SAARC region.

Pakistan’s high commissioner, Imran Haider, said the event was an important milestone in strengthening economic and trade relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The PAEI’s founding chairman, Khurshid Barlas, said the main aim of the exhibition was to present Pakistani products to Bangladeshi consumers and international buyers and to create opportunities for direct business contact between the two countries’ businesspeople. Both Pakistan and Bangladesh, he said, depend heavily on textiles and garments for their exports, so more needs to be done to strengthen the two countries’ export sectors and expand bilateral trade.

Khurshid Barlas also said there were new business opportunities between the two countries for women entrepreneurs. Pakistani women entrepreneurs could benefit from Bangladesh’s growing textile industry, he said, while Bangladeshi businesswomen could find new buyers in Pakistan’s growing retail market.
