Model and actress Snigdha Chowdhury is treating her birthday this year as “a kind of rebirth.” In an emotional social media post marking the occasion, the “Pressure Cooker” actress reflected on a difficult period in her life, the mental toll it took, public judgment she faced, and her path back.
For Chowdhury, a birthday isn’t simply another year passing. It’s a chance to look back — at where she started, and where she stands now.
“This city has taught me a lot, given me a lot. But none of it came easily. Many doors closed. I’ve had to prove myself again and again,” Chowdhury wrote on social media.
A difficult period began for Chowdhury last July, when she was the victim of a physical assault. She described the roughly 40 days that followed as one of the hardest stretches of her life, saying the emotional toll was greater than the physical pain.
On her doctor’s advice, Chowdhury stayed away from social media for an extended period. She spent that time with family, gave herself space, cried, reflected, and stayed largely quiet.
She also expressed frustration with people’s tendency to rush to judgment, saying many people label someone as good or bad without knowing the full story, while others treat a person’s most vulnerable moment as their entire identity.
Still, Chowdhury said this difficult period did not break her. “Those who thought I had broken down may have only seen my silence. I know I didn’t break. I just paused for a moment because I was tired. Now it’s time to move again,” she wrote, describing her feelings.
Reflecting on her experience, Chowdhury said she has tried to make the road ahead easier for other women, and has spoken up at various times on behalf of women who have faced injustice.
On her birthday, the actress extended wishes to all working women, and expressed hope that every woman’s workplace would be safe.
Finally, Chowdhury thanked those who stood by her selflessly during the difficult period, saying their love helped her understand anew how powerful love can be — and how much it can heal.
