Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, has accused the United States of trying to shift the burden of its war on Iran onto the entire world.
He made the allegation in a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Baghaei said the Strait of Hormuz was fully open before the U.S. attacked Iran on Feb. 28. But after the U.S. attack, commercial shipping was disrupted, tanker traffic came to a halt, and fuel prices rose.
He alleged that Washington is trying to pin the blame for a crisis of its own making on Iran. He claimed that although the United States started the war, the whole world is being made to pay the economic cost.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “The United States started the war, but now the whole world is being asked to pay the price for that war — this is completely unreasonable.”
Because the Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global energy trade, instability there affects oil supply, prices and international trade broadly. Shipping traffic through the strait has also declined significantly in recent times.
