Upazila administration in Mymensingh’s Muktagachha has seized three tonnes of expired and illegally stocked fertiliser from the shop of Sramik League leader Md Zakir Hossain. He was also fined 35,000 taka. The raid was carried out on Thursday (September 17) at Ichakhali Bazar in the upazila’s Ward No. 1 Dulla union.
Zakir is the local Sramik League’s general secretary and owner of Messrs Rihad Mahmud Joy Enterprise. It is learned that, acting on information from the National Security Intelligence (NSI) agency, a raid led by UNO Krishna Chandra seized 15 bags of expired TSP, 41 bags of urea and seven bags of MOP fertiliser from Zakir’s shop, Messrs Rihad Mahmud Joy Enterprise. As shop owner Zakir was not present at the time, he was fined 35,000 taka in absentia.
The UNO said: “Acting on NSI information, we conducted a raid at Ichakhali Bazar and seized expired and illegally stocked fertiliser. The businessman involved has been fined 35,000 taka over the incident. Such operations against illegal fertiliser stockpiling and the sale of expired fertiliser will continue.”
