The cabinet has approved the proposed 9th national pay scale for government officials and employees. The information emerged from cabinet meeting sources this evening, Monday, August 31. The meeting began earlier at 5 p.m. in the Cabinet Division’s conference room at the Secretariat.
Sources familiar with the matter said the government plans to roll out the newly approved pay structure in three phases. Earlier today, Monday morning, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman held a meeting with finance ministry officials on the new pay scale. The meeting discussed the funding needed to implement the new pay structure, its likely fiscal impact on the government, and related issues.
The prime minister’s adviser for finance and planning, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, and Finance Secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Mazumder attended the meeting.
Under the government’s plan, the new pay structure may take effect from July 1 of the current 2026-27 fiscal year.
