A passenger named Rashidul Islam, 50, has been killed after a truck, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle collided in a three-way crash in Kushtia’s Bheramara. Two other passengers were seriously injured in the incident. It took place around 9am on Thursday (September 17) at the 12 Mile roundabout in Bheramara.
The deceased, Rashidul Islam, was the son of Chhoyad Ali Mondol of Allardarga Notun Amodoho village, Doulatpur upazila. Eyewitness sources said the truck was travelling from the direction of Lalon Shah Bridge toward Kushtia. The CNG-run auto-rickshaw was entering the road from the opposite direction, from Bheramara toward Kushtia. Meanwhile, a speeding motorcycle was coming from Kushtia toward the 12 Mile crossing.
The CNG auto-rickshaw and the motorcycle collided first. The impact threw Rashidul Islam, a passenger seated inside the CNG, onto the road. He was then crushed under the wheels of the fast-moving truck and died at the scene. Two other CNG passengers were also seriously injured. The injured were admitted to Bheramara health complex.
Bheramara upazila health and family planning officer Dr Mizanur Rahman said Rashidul Islam was found dead when he was brought to the hospital after the road accident. Police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia Sadar Hospital’s morgue. Bheramara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Zaydur Rahman said one person died at the scene in the three-way collision, and the body has been sent to Kushtia Sadar Hospital’s morgue for a post-mortem examination.
